The End of Our Housing Stabilization Program

More than 1300 households were served through the program in the past 18 months

A grant-funded mission program at Goodwill West Texas will soon end after serving more than 1,300 households across the region. The housing stabilization services closed Jan. 31, the nonprofit announced today.

The 501(c)(3) nonprofit was awarded $800,699 from the Texas Department of Housing Affairs through two rounds of funding as a part of the department’s Emergency Rental Assistance funds distributed in response to the COVID pandemic. Individuals who qualified for the service received financial assistance with application fees and deposits. Goodwill resource and housing assistance navigators provided one-on-one support in the areas of housing search and placement, budgeting, and employment.

“As a locally governed organization, we have the ability to tailor our mission programs to the timely and specific needs of our communities,” Goodwill West Texas CEO Rick Waldraff said. “In this case, we were able to make a difference in thousands of lives during a turbulent time, and we look forward to continuing to help people overcome barriers to employment through our other retail-funded mission programs.”

Approximately 860 of the 1,300 households served were in the Big Country.

The sale of dates goods generates 87 percent of the nonprofit’s funding. Funds raised from donations support employment opportunities, job training programs, and other services to help West Texans overcome barriers to employment.
