Five Last-Minute Thrifted Gift Ideas

It’s the most wonderful time of the year, and (usually) the most stressful. Finding the perfect gift can be stressful and expensive, especially when you wait until the last minute. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of five last-minute thrifted gift ideas! Thrifting you Christmas gifts means you'll have the most unique gifts of the day, and it can be a great way to save money.

1. A New Outfit

When you buy thrifted clothes, you know no one else has that exact outfit. With so much to choose from you're sure to find something that everyone you're buying for will love, no matter their size or style.

Lacking outfit inspiration? No problem! Try grabbing a clothing staple your loved one can match to their own style, like a jacket, vest, blazer, pair of shoes, scarf, or purse.

2. Games and Toys

Has the kid in your life gone through a growth spurt recently? Did you turn around and all the sudden they've grown three inches and have graduated from touch and feel books to chapter books? It happens. And when it does, those old toys, books and clothes kids outgrow are generously donated to Goodwill. That means, there's always an excellent selection of almost-new kids items!

Buying new toys around the holidays can be expensive, but extending the lives of those donated kids items isn't just good for your wallet, it's a good way to instill a sense of sustainability in your kiddos from a young age.

These kid staples can be found in every Goodwill store:

  • Stuffed animals and dolls

  • Board games

  • Puzzles

3. A New Book

There's something about browsing the book aisles at Goodwill. Because our books are donated, you're guaranteed to find something you've never read before. From vintage finds, to cookbooks, to new best-selling hits, you can always find something the book lover in your life will love.

Take your time, flip through the selections and enjoy the hunt!

4. Kitchen Wares

For the bakers, chefs and entertainers on your list, check out the kitchen ware section. Serveware like bowls, cake stands and platters are sure to be a hit. Or browse through the coffee cups to find the perfect, unique or funny mug.

Hint: If you do find the perfect mug, fill it with a pre-packaged hot cocoa mix or your loved one's favorite tea or coffee.

5. A Goodwill Gift Card

Why not give your loved one the gift of thrift shopping? With a gift card, you know the person you're buying for will get exactly what they want!

A Goodwill gift card goes far, too. Shoppers can save 50% off a selection of items through our Color-of-the-Week sales, and for an extra discount bring by a donation before you shop and get a coupon for 20% off any item in the store.

The best part about all of these gifts is by shopping at Goodwill you’re giving a gift to your local community too, since 87 cents of every dollar spent at Goodwill goes to our mission of providing opportunities for people with barriers to employment.

Good luck with your holiday shopping, and don't forget to check out all these ideas at your local Goodwill!
